REDCap Research Surveys: Home

REDCap is a secure web application for building and managing research surveys.

About REDCap

What is REDCap?

REDCap LogoOriginally developed at Vanderbilt University in 2004, OSU-CHS joined over 4,000 other research institutions in 137 countries as a member of the REDCap Consortium ( in July 2019.

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) provides a secure method for building and managing research surveys and meets HIPAA security standards. REDCap supports online, offline, and mobile data capture for research studies. Learn more about REDCap on the official project page (

CIRCAAligned with core DISCOVER initiatives of the OSU-CHS Strategic Plan, a REDCap pilot program began in July 2019 with support from the Center for Integrative Research on Childhood Adversity, Office of Research, and Medical Library. One of CIRCA's primary NIH/NIGMS COBRE grant's objectives is to strengthen institutional infrastructure to support research.

REDCap is intended to support new data collection projects, not large dataset migrations. The initial REDCap pilot program will include periodic reviews through June 30, 2022. REDCap supports clinical and human subjects research and does not replace existing data collection tools administered by other campus units. Questions about course surveys should be directed to the Office of Educational Development. Questions about campus website forms should be directed to the Office of External Affairs

Accounts and Features

REDCap Accounts

REDCap is primarily intended to support clinical and human subject research by OSU-CHS principal investigators and supporting research team members. Investigators at other OSU campuses and collaborating research institutions can be provided with REDCap accounts as well. Prior to using REDCap to collect research data, investigators must operate under an IRB review. Send an email to for IRB related questions.

New Account Request Form - Account activity will be audited and compared with IRB protocols periodically.
